Houses in Texas

Houses in Texas have a very odd way of absorbing every ounce of moisture from the outside and holding in until even the cat is going outside to cool off.

Today, I went out early morning to the backyard with the hubby to enjoy the cool air. Was even at a point of "chilly". The wind was gusting pretty good and the sky was covered in dark clouds. I of course do a mini happy dance thinking I can go around and open all the windows before it rained to cool off the house. Now this is pretty entailed process as you have to open the right windows in the house to get the perfect draft. So I start downstairs with the back door window and one in the family room. Then move to the sitting room and open both full wide as these are the "exit" windows. From there I go to my bedroom and pull open both half way to block out the sun with the shades and curtains. I then feel the massive RUSH of air and the recently sorted stack of mail goes flying on the floor in the kitchen. So I race around closing some of the out and in windows to reduce the massive GUSH of air. Downstairs...DONE... woohoo... mini mommy home alone happy dance...this is of course only done alone because if anyone saw mommy being silly they would think they could get away with anything....

Anyways... off to the upstairs to try the same thing, rushing around and all the get the perfect suction.

At last, success! A day without AC! I go to sit down in the office and login to the work computer and get going with my conversions. About a hour later I go to get up and my sweat soaked shirt peals away from the leather chair, and it finally dawns on me...it is HUMID as hell in here. I of course don't think to shut the windows, I just go outside, feel the air and scratch my head to wonder why I felt so hot. I finally chucked it up to the fact that I have 3 computers running and that must have been why my office was so muggy.

So, I went back to work for a while longer. Once again, same damn thing.. shirt sticking and this time I got smarter... went and looked at the thermostat. Now if you know my husband 70 is too hot in the house and would prefer it be set to 68, we settle on 70-72 range. I go and see it is now 78 degrees in the bloody house... I of course to the mad flight of the bumble bee shutting all windows and closing curtains to help hold the AC in... yep that's right... had to turn the AC on after all...

I think tonight I may try the window thing... and then close them in the morning... stay tuned... I may finally get this right...

Happy Wednesday!
